Due to high demand for passport and visa application appointments, waiting times for an appointment may be increased. Please consider this while arranging personal travel plans!
The Legal and Consular and Section is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m., except on selected German and American Holidays (consult "Official Holidays" on right hand side). Last admission without appointment is at 11:30 am.
For security reasons you are kindly asked to keep your luggage to a minimum when coming to the Consulate. Please do not bring suitcases or large bags and backpacks.
The Consulate General reserves the right to refuse entry to customers with bulky luggage. There is no temporary storage facility for such pieces of luggage.
Applicants for German passports, for visa or citizenship matters (naturalization/restoration of German citizenship, permission to retain German citizenship, certificates of citizenship, renunciation of German citizenship) are required to make an appointment. Online-Appointments will also be required for matters relating to driver´s licenses, regular signature certifications and notarizations of photocopies as well as name declarations and registration of births, marriages and civil unions in the German registers.
Applications in citizenship matters generally can be sent in by mail.
For full notarizations ("Beurkundungen") you will have to make an appointment via telephone.

All other consular services (e.g. life certificates) and the pick-up of certificates in citizenship matters are available without appointments during the office hours of 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.
Please note that the use of mobile devices may result in reduced functionality or wrong bookings. We therefore recommend the use of desktop computers or laptops for making online appointments.

You are required to make an appointment for passport and visa applications as well as for notarizations/certifications. Appointments are also required for full notarizations ("Beurkundungen" according to German law, e.g. in inheritance or real estate matters). Find more information here:
