Office Hours - Legal and Consular Department

The Legal and Consular Department of the Embassy is open to the public Monday through Friday, except on selected German and American Holidays. 

The Embassy and its consular office follow the decision of the U.S. Federal Government in Washington, DC, on closing or delayed opening in extreme weather conditions. OPM.gov Current Status

Passport and visa applicants who have an appointment scheduled in the consular office on a day when the Embassy is closed for this reason may send an email via our contact form or call 202-298-4224 on the next day on which we are open in order to reschedule.

Please note that you are required to schedule an appointment for visa and passport applications as well as for full notarizations (Beurkundungen). For all other consular services you do not need an appointment.
