Ambassador Scharioth Tours Germany’s surPLUShome

Even on a cold, rainy day, Team Germany’s entry in the 2009 Solar Decathlon, the surPLUShome, is warm and cozy inside, as Ambassador Scharioth found on his visit to the house on the National Mall. Under ideal conditions, the house is capable of producing 200 percent the amount of energy needed to operate.

The announcement that US President Obama would be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize was greeted with enthusiasm by the German public and hailed by German leaders. Germany's representative in the United States, Ambassador Scharioth, said he had long been impressed by President Obama’s ability to inspire people in the US and beyond.
400-Year-Old Books Return to Germany

Sixty-four years after the end of World War II, two 16th-century books, taken home by a young US soldier as a souvenir, are being returned to Germany. US veteran Robert Thomas turned the two works over to German Ambassador Klaus Scharioth at the National Archives in Washington, DC.
