Ambassador Peter Ammon and his wife, Marliese Heimann-Ammon, were pleased to welcome Vice President Joe Biden to their residence on November 14. In his first visit to the German Ambassador's Residence, Vice President Biden attended the Ambassador's reception honoring his longtime friend and colleague, Senator Richard Lugar. It was a very special evening for Ambassador Ammon and his wife and for the entire staff at the residence.

"You stood up for people who struggled for freedom, from the Philippines to South Africa, from the former Soviet Empire to the Arab Spring."

For its efforts in IT security, the German Government has been awarded the “Cyber Award International.” State Secretary Cornelia Rogall-Grothe, Commissioner for Information Technology, accepted the honor from US cyber security specialists Symantec in Washington, DC.

May 9

The Ambassador met with the Chairman of the parliamentary group of Alliance ’90/The Greens in the German Bundestag Jürgen Trittin and hosted a luncheon in his honor on transatlantic economic and trade issues at his residence.

In the presence of German American Business Council (GABC) Chairman Steve Williams and President Lynn Taylor, the Ambassador presented the GABC’s annual leadership award to acting Secretary of Commerce Dr. Rebecca Blank during the traditional “Maifest” of the GABC. In his speech, the Ambassador paid tribute to the Secretary’s important contributions to fostering German American trade relations, including her support for the Embassy’s “Skills Initiative” and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership initiative.

The Ambassador hosted a reception at his residence in honor of Senator Richard Lugar, presenting to him the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his tireless efforts to foster and deepen transatlantic relations. Among the guests were Senator Dan Coats, Congressman Charlie Dent, former National Security Advisor General Brent Scowcroft, former Ambassador of the United States to Germany Richard Burt, President and CEO of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Jane Harman, the Chairman of the Carlyle Group Ambassador Frank Carlucci, as well as family and friends of Senator Lugar.

The Ambassador met with Rafael Seligmann, publisher of the Jewish Voice From Germany.

In the presence of Congressman Waxman, as well as Dr. William Weitzer, executive director of the Leo Baeck Institute, and its International Director Carol Kahn Strauss, the Ambassador hosted the opening of the Leo Baeck Insitute’s exhibition The Mendelssohns: A German Family of Scholars, Bankers and Artists at his residence.

May 6

The Ambassador met with Member of German Bundestag Hans-Ulrich Klose.

The Ambassador met with the Director General of NATO’s International Military Staff, Lieutenant General Jürgen Bornemann, and the German Military Representative to the NATO and the EU Military Committee, Lieutenant General Markus Bentler.

The Ambassador met with Dr. Jörg Freiherr Frank von Fürstenwerth, managing director of the German Insurance Association (GDV).
