Appointments for Passport Applications

The German Embassy strongly suggests that you schedule an appointment in order to apply for a passport. Passport applicants without an appointment will have to wait for a free slot. The Embassy cannot guarantee that your application can be accepted the same day.

To make an appointment, please call: 1 800 325 4848 (pay using your credit card) or 1 900 776 5555 (calls cost $2.49 per minute). These lines operate from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm, Monday to Friday, except for Christmas Day, December 26th, New Years Day and Good Friday. All appointments are handled by Abtran. This enables the passport section staff to concentrate fully on processing passport applications.

Once you have made an appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with your reference number. You will also receive information on what supporting documentation to include with your application. Additional information can be found in the passport section of this website. We recommend you read the information carefully in order to be fully prepared.

Passport Information

If your name has changed because of marriage and you need to make a name declaration or when you are submitting a passport application for your child and you want to register the birth, you have to come to the Embassy at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment.

Please note that these services start at 8.30 am, so please ask for a passport appointment after 09.30 am to allow for time to get these matters taken care of first. Please note that appointments will automatically be cancelled if you are more that 30 minutes late.

Please Note: Some premium numbers (1-900) are blocked by workplaces and also by some cell phone companies. We suggest that you contact your cell phone provider to have the number unblocked. Alternatively, you may call the 1-800 number from most phones and pay via credit card.

The phone numbers above are for appointments only. If you have a complaint regarding this service (only), please use this email address for a follow-up. The e-mail is specifically for complaints: abtran%27%com,GerEmbWashcustomerservices

Please also check our contact information page for a full list of public holidays. The Embassy will be closed to the public on those days.

Thank you very much for your attention.

- Important Note -

A website named “application-download.com” has recently been offering a so-called “German passport application kit” for a fee of $20.00. We would like to clarify that this said website is not in any way connected with the German Missions in the US. All consular forms, including passport application forms, can be easily downloaded free of charge at www.Germany.info.
