Ambassador Ammon and LBI International Director Kahn Strauss opened an exhibition titled “The Mendelssohns: A German Family of Scholars, Bankers, and Artists” in the German Residence. Guests enjoyed music by Fanny Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

Former Israeli Ambassador Reuven Merhav gave a keynote speech on German-Jewish Dialogue and Reconciliation at the Goethe Institute in Washington. The discussion following the speech centered on how each generation relates to and accentuates its rememberance of the Holocaust in a different way.

For the improvement of the German American Friendship Garden on the National Mall, Ambassador Ammon signed a memorandum with the deputy superintendent of the National Mall and presidents of German-American associations, also activating a $100,000 trust fund to finance future maintenance.
