The German Consulate General in Atlanta is the official representation of the German government to the southeast of the Unites States. The district of the southeast includes Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

10th Atlanta Jewish Film Festival Opens with German Film "Berlin 36"

The 2010 Atlanta Jewish Film Festival opened last night with a sold-out showing of the German film "Berlin 36", the true story of Jewish high jumper Gretel Bergmann and a remarkable piece of forgotten Olympic history. The film's director, Kaspar Heidelbach, had flown in from Germany to introduce his movie to the audience and also give some insight into the creative process necessary to film this unbelievable story for the big screen after seven decades have passed.

Ambassador Klaus Scharioth visits Mississippi

German Ambassador Klaus Scharioth visited Mississippi on January 13th and 14th. At the State Capitol, he met with Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant and House Speaker William McCoy. In his address to the Mississippi Senate, Ambassador Scharioth expressed his gratitude for Mississippi's contribution to support Germany's unity and welcomed Mississippi's efforts to promote foreign investment.

Wilh. Schulz GmbH announces $300 million manufacturing facility in Tunica, Mississippi

The German company Wilh. Schulz GmbH will build a $300 million plant in Mississippi to manufacture stainless steel pipes for the oil and gas industry. The company will initially invest $90 million and create 200 jobs in Tunica, 20 miles south of Memphis. Construction should begin in the next few months and the plant could be open by early 2011.

The Transatlantic Climate Bridge featured a German-American Panel Discussion on Energy Efficient Buildings at the German Culture Center in Atlanta. More than 100 guests followed the interesting discussion on ways to lower energy bills and to protect the environment at the same time.

Atlanta International School Receives PASCH Designation

The Atlanta International School was awarded the PASCH designation, indicating a partner school of the Federal Republic of Germany, in an official ceremony on the school’s campus on December 5th. The award was presented by Deputy Consul General Sönke Lorenz and received by students in the school’s German language program.
