German-American relations, especially to the Midwest, have been a cornerstone of German foreign policy for almost sixty years. The excellent relations are not limited to political meetings, but include also economical and academical spheres. More than 1,350 German-owned businesses in the Midwest create thousands of jobs in America’s heartland, and many U.S. based companies work closely together with their counterparts in Germany. The constant exchange of personnell and ideas between the Midwest and Germany helps both the U.S. and Germany prosper and aims for innovations: The “Transatlantic Climate Bridge” – a German-American initiative to fight climate change on both sides of the Atlantic – brings together scientists and entrepreneurs of the renewable energy sector from both our countries. On this website, you will learn about our quest to foster the excellent business relations for which the German-American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACCoM) is of crucial importance.

In no other region of the United States is the number of Americans of German descent higher than in the Midwest: More than 15 % of the U.S. population claims to be of German origin, making it the largest ancestry group in the country. This fact is both our common rich heritage and the basis for cooperating in many fields. The sister city partnerships between many cities in the Midwest and Germany are a result of this fact and bring the German-American friendship to life. We cooperate very closely with many German-American cultural institution, foremost with the Goethe-Insitut in Chicago, when it comes to promoting the German language and hosting cultural or literature events.
