Farewell from Consul General Redeker
All Good Things Must Come To An End
And so has my time in Houston after three exciting and interesting years as German Consul General.
The tremendous, five-state area of jurisdiction of the German Consulate General that covers the incredibly diverse states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas offered countless opportunities for me to explore the diversity of the American Southwest and to convey a modern image of Germany.
I was lucky to experience joyous and fascinating moments, such as the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall at Jones Hall in Houston in 2014. Under the patronage of former President of the United States George H. W. Bush and former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, the prestigious Gewandhaus Orchestra from the Sister City of Leipzig delivered an incredible guest performance.
In Santa Fe, New Mexico I had the unique opportunity to celebrate with Lieutenant Governor John Sanchez, the first “Germany-New Mexico Friendship Day”.
Unforgettable visits in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas will always stay in my memory.
Also, during my assignment in Houston I happily welcomed new Honorary Consuls to our team.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Houston and although I am sad to leave, I will look back on my memories and experiences with gratitude and embrace the new adventures ahead.
