Die überwiegende Zahl der Standesämter in Deutschland erkennt eine amerikanische Heiratsurkunde, sofern sie den offiziellen amerikanischen Registrierungsvermerk enthält (Prägesiegel und Registrierungsnummer, siehe Nr. III) an.
Manche Standesämter in Deutschland bestehen jedoch auf der Apostille:
