Presentation of the Medal of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mrs. Gisela de Marco
The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Christian Wulff, awarded Mrs. Gisela de Marco the Medal of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Thus he honored her dedication to promote the German language and culture and above all her involvement over several decades in the German Saturday School of Dallas.
Consul General Herrmann presented Mrs. de Marco on January 17th with the decoration during a reception in the presence of her family members and staff members of the German Consulate.

San Antonio Liederkranz receives German Friendship Award
On December 3rd, 2011, the Deputy Consul General of Germany, Klaus-Jochen Gühlcke, honored the San Antonio Liederkranz with the German Friendship Award. He presented the award on the occasion of the choir's annual Christmas concert to its President Mr. Joe Miller.
Dr. Jürgen Stark, Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank
Dr. Jürgen Stark visited Dallas and Houston on November 29th 30th, 2011. In cooperation with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and its Houston Branch, the Consulate General of Germany in Houston offered talks with Dr. Jürgen Stark about the present economic situation in Europe.
Deputy Consul General Klaus-Jochen Guehlcke Visits New Mexico
On Tuesday, 15th of November, Deputy Consul General Klaus-Jochen Guehlcke presided over the first-ever ‘Stammtisch’ Business Roundtable in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The meeting, which was organized by New Mexico Honorary Consul, Stephan Helgesen, brought representatives of four German business subsidiaries, of the ‘Sister Cities’ Project (Albuquerque is a sister city with Helmstedt), from the University of New Mexico and Taos German Summer School as well as the Deputy Manager of the German-American Chamber of Commerce in San Francisco together to discuss issues ranging from the economy to culture.
German National Day of Mourning (Volkstrauertag, 13. November 2011)
On the German National Day of Mourning (Volkstrauertag, 13. November 2011) a ceremony was held at the cemetary of former Prisoners of War Camp Fort Reno (Oklahoma) where 62 German and 8 Italians POWs have been laid to rest. Representatives of US and German armed forces attended the ceremony which was organized by the German-American Society of Tulsa. Consul General Roland Herrmann (Houston) and Honorary Consul Charles Wiggin (Oklahoma City) addressed the participants.
German Consul General Roland Herrmann in Former Secretary James A. Baker's Office
The Ministerpräsident of the Federal State of Saxony, the Honorable Stanislaw Tillich sent collections of pictures produced by young artists of his State to former President George Bush senior and to Secretary of State James Baker in recognition of their valuable support in the German Unification process. The picture shows Secretary Baker receiving the gift from the hand of German Consul General Herrmann in Secretary Baker's office on the 26th of October 2011.
The wall picture in the center of the photo is a snapshot from a Bundestag session, formerly in Bonn, featuring among others former Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl and former Secretary of State James Baker's counterpart former Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher.
Niedersachsen Minister Jörg Bode visits Mayor Annise Parker
About 90 business people from Germany organized in 3 different delegations visited Houston early October 2011 and attended the Day of German Unity function on 3 October, jointly hosted by Consul General Roland Herrmann, Niedersachsen Minister for Economics, Labor, and Transport Jörg Bode, and Niedersachsen Minister for Environment and Climate Protection Hans-Heinrich Sander. The delegations had many meetings exploring business opportunities in Texas. They met among others with representatives of Greater Houston Partnership, the Port Authority, Texas Medical Center and NASA.

German National Day and the Pioneer Ball in Dallas, TX
Consul General Roland Herrmann participated in the reception for the German National Day and the Pioneer Ball in Dallas, Texas. He gave a short overview leading up to the fall of the Berlin Wall and Communism in general. ( photo 1)

Visit of Dignitaries of the State of Lower Saxony to Houston
From October 1st to 4th three delegations for trade and industry from Lower Saxony visited Houston. Headed by Secretary Joerg Bode(Trade and Industry, Labor and Transport) and Hans-Heinrich Sander (Environment and Climate Protection) the representative of industry, members of state parliament, and mayors were presented with a broad program of talks and tours.
McKinney High School Homecoming Parade
McKinney High School celebrated Homecoming with an annual parade through McKinney's Historic Downtown on October 01, 2011. It was the first time ever that the McKinney High School German Club proudly participated in the event.
