Opening Reception of Art Exhibition at German Consulate General

For the next 3 months, the Consulate General will be home of a new art exhibition featuring German Artist Detlef Peters. On Tuesday, March 19, the Consulate General hosted an opening reception where guests enjoyed some of the impressive art works of Mr. Peters while being treated to an array of German appetizers, German beer and wine. One big surprise to the artist and most of the guests was the visit of German Comedian Otto Waalkes who resides in Florida during the winter months.

The notion of a "Wolkenkuckucksheim" (Cloud-cuckoo-land) can be loosely defined, along the lines of building castles in the air (Luftschlösser), as "eine Utopie ohne Bodenhaftung oder Realitätssinn" (a utopia without grounding or a sense of reality).

The Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, the first and only U.S. extension of the prestigious Max Planck Society, today announced it has received approximately $1,257,500 in recent grant funding from prestigious national and international organizations. These latest Grants Will Fund Basic Research into Parkinson’s, Epilepsy and Other Brain Disorders.

Opening Reception for German Artist Heidi Schmitz at the Sindey & Berne Davis Art Center

Together with the Mayor of Ft. Myers, Randy Henderson, the Consul General of Germany Eva Alexandra Countess Kendeffy opened the exhibition of German Artist Heidi  Schmitz, featuring aquarelles and acrylic paintings at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in Ft. Myers.

A "Hoffnungsträger" is a person on whom you pin your hope, literally as if you took your hope (="Hoffnung") and gave it to this person to carry (= "tragen"). Bright young people are Hoffnungsträger, or promising prospects, such as the students in the Think Transatlantic National Finals.
