In NYC’s Winter Garden seventy Students from Berlin and New York created dances to honor the Fall of the Wall.

On Wednesday, October 28th, 2009, World Financial Center celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with the dance performance "Battery Dance Company - Dancing to Connect", created by American choreographers, teenage Germans (who crossed the Atlantic for the program) and teenage American dancers from the Millennium High School in Lower Manhattan. The results of this one week of hard work was presented in two outstanding performances at the Winter Garden which attracted almost one thousand people.
At Columbia University, a Symposium to Discuss German Reunification

On November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall fell, paved the way for the reunification of Germany and heralded the end of the Cold War. In celebrating this historic landmark that changed the world, Columbia University and New York University jointly held a two-day symposium on the German reunification, entitled, “The Fall of the Wall: A Prism for Looking at Germany’s Recent Past and Future”, on October 22 and 23. The symposium was opened on Thursday, October 22, with a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Gesine Schwan, co-founder of the Humboldt-Viadrina School of Governance and former president of Viadrina University, Frankfurt/Oder, at Columbia University’s Altschul Auditorium.

To celebrate German-American friendship, the Press Consul of the Consulate General, Jochen Wolter, participated in German American Day in Mineola, Nassau County on Thursday, October 8th. He followed an invitation by the Hon. Justice Ute Wolff Lally and the American Cultural Council. Taking place in front of the Old Courthouse, the celebration also featured German-learning schoolchildren of several classes from the Garden City Middle School. County Executive Tom Suozzi also held an address.

At a conference hosted by the Consulate General and the State of Hessen US Office for Economic Development on October 6th at the German House New York, Dr. Christian Garbe, Managing Director of FIZ Frankfurt Biotechnology Innovation Center and Dr. Nathan Tinker, Executive Director of the New York Biotechnology Association (NYBA) signed a memorandum of understanding, commiting both parties to increase cooperation in biotechnological research.
