Important information for visa applicants:
Please note that only passports that have been issued during the past ten years can be endorsed with a visa. If it has been issued before that, your passport cannot be accepted. This even applies in cases where the validity has been extended by the authorities of your home country. If your passport was issued more than 10 years ago, you have to apply for a new passport at your home country's Embassy/Consulate before making an interview appointment.

Since July 1, 2009 you are required to make an appointment for both passport and visa applications. Appointments are also required for legal notarizations ("Beurkundungen" according to German law, e.g. in inheritance or real estate matters). Find more information here:

A website named “application-download.com” has recently been offering a so-called “German passport application kit” for a fee of $20.00. We would like to clarify that this said website is not in any way connected with the German Missions in the US. All consular forms, including passport application forms, can be easily downloaded free of charge at Germany.info
