The Conference of European Rabbis has awarded Chancellor Angela Merkel the Lord Jakobovits Prize of European Jewry in recognition of her "continuing efforts (to promote) internal-communal harmony across Europe" and "her outstanding contributions to the promotion of tolerance and understanding".

Sanctions in most areas will be extended for 12 months. With regard to the current arms embargo, member states can now decide at the national level about delivering arms or appropriate equipment to the opposition to increase pressure on President Assad for a negotiated solution. Germany does not intend to supply arms to parties to the conflict in Syria.
