Afghanistan features prominently in Germany’s support for cultural preservation projects. German funds have so far facilitated the promotion of 57 individual projects, including restoration works, small donations in kind but also complex projects such as the restoration of the Babur Garden (Bagh-e Babur) in Kabul, excavations in the city area of Herat or safeguarding works at the Buddhas of Bamiyan. Further, Germany has supported a number of projects for training journalists.
