The Germany.info buses have completed another run, this time with the theme “Zeitgeist is German.” The bold new design—one bus was orange and one bus was bright green—was visible on the streets of Washington, DC, on regular Metrobus routes and online on Germany.info and the website of the Goethe-Institut Washington.

The grand prize in the Spot the Bus contest this time is a four-week* trip to Germany for a German language course, generously sponsored by Goethe-Institut Washington. The Second-place prize was an iPod Shuffle for one winner each month. And, for the first time, every valid submission won an instant gift, a cute WINNI-TWO keyboard brush made in Germany.

These Germany.info users were quick on the draw and used the form to successfully submit their shots. A lucky few were chosen as monthly winners and received an iPod Shuffle.

German - You Already Speak It!

You meet up with friends for a pils or lager at the local rathskeller or beer garden to discuss the latest news or simply soak up the zeitgeist. German words are simply a part of American life. In fact, there are times when a German word describes best what we wish to say.

Definitions and Audio

There are many German words that have found usage on this side of the Atlantic. But do know what they actually mean and how they are pronounced?

* If the winner is under 18 years of age, he/she will win a three-week trip to Germany for a youth language course instead of the four-week general course for adults.
