The Ensemble Horizonte, located in Detmold, Germany, has been invited to New York with an interdisciplinary program connecting contemporary music and texts devoted to Dadaism and the art of Marcel Duchamp. The program includes music by (amongst others) Malika Kishino, Giacinto Scelsi, John Cage, Bernd A. Zimmermann and Max E. Keller. The Ensemble will play with five instruments: violin, viola, cello, oboe and harp, completed by a speaker and performer.

  • Mareike Neumann (violin)
  • Maria Pache (viola)
  • Martina Styppa (cello)
  • Jörg-Peter Mittmann (oboe)
  • Helene Schütz (harp)
  • Julia Wahren (text / voice art / performance)

The Ensemble Horizonte, led by the composer Joerg-Peter Mittmann, devotes itself to contemporary music. One of the main programmatic focuses is directed to the relationship between music, literature and visual arts. There are many instructive parallels between the different genres. In past the Ensemble Horizonte combined f. i. music by Morton Feldman with the well-known pictures of Mark Rothko or Willem de Kooning, music in the spirit of Philip Glass with the short film "Railroad Turnbridge" by Richard Serra, music by Jörg-Peter Mittmann with the architecture of Frank Gehry. The current project enlightens the relationship between the aesthetics of Marcel Duchamp and modern music, especially the music of John Cage. Texts inspired by Dada and Surrealism are combined with several works of contemporary music to form a panorama view on sense and meaning in the articulation of modern aesthetics.
