Nineteen years ago, the 3rd of October 1990 marked the new beginning of Germany as a united country.
To celebrate this historic date, on October 5, 2009, Consul General Friedrich Löhr and his wife Angela Zhang Löhr invited guests from all over New England to a reception at the beautiful building of the Goethe Institute in Boston.
After the presentation of the German and the US-American national anthems, Consul General Löhr reminded the audience of the two remarkable historic events whose anniversaries Germany can celebrate this year.

On May 23, 1949, the constitution or Basic Law was signed and marked the foundation of a democratic post-war Germany.
Twenty years ago, on November 9, 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall was the beginning of a new era in Germany and all of Europe.
The Consul General especially highlighted the unique role of the United States in this process.
Also remarking upon the importance of German-American cooperation today and for the future, he pointed out the strong basis on which the friendship of both countries is built.

As the evening continued, the approximately 150 guests dined on a buffet that featured German specialties. Enjoying German wine, they used the rest of the evening to mingle.
