German Ambassador Klaus Scharioth meets scientific, energy and military leaders in Boston
A fully packed Tuesday offered German Ambassador Klaus Scharioth his personal version of Ted Kennedy's famous portrait of Boston as „...the best of the past, and the best of the future“:
Scharioth, who attended the Harvard Law School and the JFK School of Government and holds a PhD from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, did much more than trace his own footsteps when he came to Boston on October 13, 2009.

Ambassador Scharioth first briefed German Military Attachés from all over the world on the change in substance and style of American foreign policy since the beginning of the Obama administration. He highlighted the vital role that the United States play in tackling global challenges such as climate change, the Iranian nuclear program and peace in the Middle East.
Later, he met with a group of McCloy scholars at Harvard University to discuss the role and tools of diplomacy in the 21st century and the perception of modern Germany in the US.

In a brief meeting with Rudolf Jaenisch, the German-American pioneer of transgenic science working at the MIT's Whitehead Institute who was awarded the prestigious 2009 Ernst Schering prize for his “...groundbreaking work in the field of transgenic animal models and therapeutic cloning”, Ambassador Scharioth discussed career opportunities for outstanding young scientists in Germany and the US and what needs to be done in addition to the Excellence Initiative to (re-)attract world-class scientists to live and work in Germany.
