On Friday, December 4, 2009 a delegation of the German Consulate General and the Goethe Institute Boston visited the school and presented the prestigious Partner School plaque of Germany to Gloucester High School.

In 2008 the German Federal Foreign Office launched the initiative „Schools: Partners for the Future“ (PASCH) to create a worldwide network of partner schools with a special relationship to Germany, thus strengthening and extending the network of German schools abroad and schools offering the German Language Certificate. In addition, cooperation between schools will be expanded to more firmly anchor German as a foreign language in national education systems. The network consists of outstanding schools with excellent students and teachers.

With the partner school initiative PASCH, a global network of schools is being built. Students at these schools are not just given the opportunity of learning German and enjoying German education. This cultural relations initiative is intended to arouse long-term interest in modern Germany and the German language amongst young people.

German teacher Colleen Moceri pointed out that Gloucester High School received some funding from the program which had been spent on new German textbooks and other classroom material.

During Friday's event, students William Sean Dixon, Evan Kidder and Hailey Howell, who were awarded an all-expense paid educational trip to Germany by PASCH for three weeks last summer, made presentations about their experiences in the German town of Bielefeld.

During the award ceremony, the school's 61 German language students performed German songs with choreography.
DVDs in German, produced by the students, were also shown. Students worked in groups and prepared their scripts using classroom materials provided by the PASCH program.

Consul General Friedrich Loehr and Dr. Christine Moeller-Sahling, the language director of the Goethe Institut in Boston presented the official plaque for the school to Dr. William Goodwin, Head of Gloucester High School, and Colleen Moceri of the German Department. The students received a portable soccer “goal wall”.

Following the award ceremony, school officials and guests from the German Consulate and the Goethe Institute were joined by Gloucester's mayor Carolyn Kirk for luncheon in the school cafeteria, prepared and served by students of Gloucester High.
The visit ended on a private tour of Gloucester's tourist treasures, given by Jan Bell, wife of former mayor John Bell.
