German Ambassador Klaus Scharioth and Consul General Onno Hückmann met in Fort Leavenworth with LTG William B. Caldwell, IV, the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center - an installation often referred to as the „Intellectual Center of the Army“. One of the main topics addressed was Afghanistan. "We believe this is the time for a fresh start: to come together with the new Afghan leadership to agree on the way forward, to agree on a binding road map in the main areas of security, reconstruction, reconciliation, good governance, and the fight against corruption," the Ambassador said.

On the next day, Ambassador Scharioth and Consul General Hückmann visited the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, America's official museum dedicated to World War I. Its mission is inspiring thought, dialogue, and learning to make the experiences of the World War I era meaningful and relevant for present and future generations.

At Rockhurst, a private, coeducational, Jesuit university founded in 1910, Ambassador Scharioth and Consul General Hückmann were greeted by President Rev. Thomas B. Curran, O.S.F.S., Vice Presidents and Deans. The Ambassador then spoke to students, faculty and staff on transatlantic relations. A lively discussion ensued.
