University of Florida celebrates Freedom Without Walls
Oct 22, 2009
As one of 29 universities in the US, University of Florida, Gainesville
qualified for the support of the German government to organize a gala on
the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
Students and faculty created an atmosphere of remembrance, reflection
and joy. A public speaking competition showed that students had
integrated the complexity of the process of German unification in their
thoughts. Various speakers, among them Consul General Klaus Ranner,
added their personal experience. The keynote address was given by German
writer and dramaturg Holger Teschke.
