Charlotte County - A Floridian leader in renewable energies
Charlotte County in Southwest Florida organised an "Energy Options Conference" on Nov 1 & 2, 2009 in Punta Gorda,
a town that had been severely hit by hurricane "Charlie" five years ago. Scholars and representatives from local
and federal government, business and associations discussed the use of sustainable energy, both an ecologic as
economic necessity. Even the European Carbon Exchange in London participated through internet video. On the
accompanying exposition mostly small and medium-sized companies showed their products, among them a German
entrepreneur, who has invested in Punta Gorda, creating a considerable number of jobs and introducing several
applications of solar energy, e.g. street lighting. Consul General Klaus Ranner had been invited to give the
inaugural speech. He underlined that Germany is well prepared to transfer its rich experience in renewable
energies as well to the Sunshine State.
