Political Salon gathered at the German House.
“There can be a common way forward” - Reinhard Bütikofer, former Chairman of Alliance 90/ The Greens, talked about transatlantic strategies in facing climate and energy challenges.
To promote dialogue among the next generation of decision makers and opinion leaders from business, academia, politics and the media, The Political Salon encourages a vivid exchange of ideas and views on a range of foreign and domestic policy issues. Organized by Steven E. Sokol, Vice President and Director of Programs of the American Council on Germany, since its initiation in 2003 over 60 Political Salon talks and discussions have taken place.
On December 3, the German Consulate hosted a Salon gathering. An estimated 35 Salon members followed the invitation. In an engaging speech, which was followed by a lively discussion, Reinhard Bütikofer, currently a candidate for membership in the European Parliament, shared his insights on the necessity of transatlantic cooperation between Europe and the United States in order to achieve lasting changes in climate and energy policy. An activist for the Green movement since the beginning of his career, Mr. Bütikofer stressed that “common transatlantic leadership and shared strategies” are the key in battling the increasing threat of global climate change, enhancing the natural environment and as a consequence, improving international security.
