New York is a cultural and culinary melting pot. Sauerkraut and pretzels, applestrudel and black bread, beer and Swiss chocolate, these and more delicious products from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are much sought-after in supermarkets throughout the city.
During the 53rd World Food Business Summit from June 17 to 19 in New York, the crème de la crème of the food business leaders focused on finding ingredients for success in turbulent times.
On June 18, the Lambertz Company, one of the leading German manufacturers of long-life bakery products, invited to the “Loft and Garden” at Rockefeller Center for a German-speaking evening, the “Deutschsprachiger Abend.” Dr. Hermann Bühlbecker, CEO of the Lambertz Company, hosted representatives of well-known companies and brands, such as Rewe, Dohle, Tchibo, Tegut, Dr.Oetker, IBM and Beiersdorf and other business leaders from Germany, Austria and Switzerland for an exchange of ideas and experiences. Consul General Horst Freitag was among the distinguished guests as well as the consultant to German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Hans-Joachim Weber. A member of the German “Bundestag”, Mrs. Dagmar Freitag, and Dr. Clemens Prokop, President of the German Athletics Association also attended the event.
Consul General Freitag praised the importance of middle-class companies in the food business: “They stand for quality, resourcefulness, great organisational skills and reliability – but above all for a corporate culture that internalizes and exemplifies the principles of the social market economy.” He stressed that running a middle-sized company means to undertake a personal financial liability. This leads to responsible decision-management avoiding excessive risk-taking. He pointed out the charitable contributions of many middle-sized companies, in particular, the social engagements of the Lambertz Company, which supports disadvantaged children and youths and fights against AIDS worldwide.
CIES-The Food Business Forum is the only independent global food business network. The annual, high-level CIES summit is held in a different country every year. It brings together representatives of 400 member companies from across 150 countries, and provides a platform for knowledge-exchange, thought-leadership and networking.
