As a prelude to celebrate the German-American Friendship Month Consul General Horst Freitag presided over the NASDAQ closing bell on Tuesday, September 1st. Ringing the bell was the opening ceremony of the German-American Friendship Month, which is celebrated throughout September, culminating with the 52nd Steuben Parade on Fifth Avenue on Saturday, September 19th.

Consul General Freitag said in his speech that he was proud to ring in the celebrations, especially since about 15% of the U.S. population come from German heritage. From the very beginning, German immigrants have contributed significantly to the economic, political, social, scientific and cultural growth and success of the United States. One of these individuals was General von Steuben, army chief of staff and trusted advisor of George Washington. Bearing his name, the annual Steuben Parade will once more turn Fifth Avenue into “Fest Avenue.”

While keeping up with rich and diverse traditions, the Steuben Parade also reflects German-American partnership. “Building on our common values, our trusted partnership is predestined for turning new challenges into opportunities – and opportunties into sustainable achievements,” the Consul General said.
