The Consulate General of Germany is happy to announce that the Empire State Building Company agreed to coat the top of New York City’s famous landmark in the German national colors on the occasion of the 52nd Steuben Parade, from September 18 to 19. The lighting starts at sunset and lasts until midnight.

German-Americans have commemorated their heritage and friendship between the “alte Heimat” and their new home with the color- and cheerful Steuben Parade since 1957. The Parade honors Freiherr Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, who is credited with training George Washington’s Continental Army and helping pave the way for American independence.

The Black, Red and Gold-colored top of New York’s iconic skyscraper highlights the occasion of the 52nd annual Steuben Parade as well as expresses the strong ties of friendship and unity between the United States and Germany.
