Research Conference 2009 with Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the National Science Foundation (NSF)

This year’s very successful DFG-NSF Research Conference in the German House New York (14 -17 October) was focused on the topic "Sustainable Use of Nanomaterials for Novel Engineering Solutions". It is the fifth in a series of research conferences jointly supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) that aim to strengthen the research ties between the US and Germany. In his speech Deputy Consul General Mr. Grabherr emphasized the high importance of nanotechnology and stated that we can expect “big things from a tiny world”. Nanotechnology represents a new interdisciplinary and intersectoral approach for progress in the fields of electronics, optics, biotechnology and new materials.

The DFG-NSF Research Conference is intended to be the starting point for joint research activities between German and US researchers from academic, industry and national laboratories. The conference holds a strong cross-disciplinary approach in major fields such as nanomaterials and production engineering in research and development. More information on the conference is available on the website www.rpi.edu/~koratn/conf.html
