In NYC’s Winter Garden seventy Students from Berlin and New York created dances to honor the Fall of the Wall.

The World Financial Center together with the German Consulate celebrated the 20-year reunification of Germany with the dance performance "Battery Dance Company - Dancing to Connect", created by American choreographers, teenage German (who crossed the Atlantic for the program) and American dancers from the Millennium High School in Lower Manhattan.
Using the medium of dance to bridge cultural differences and engender social tolerance, Battery Dance Company's Dancing to Connect program had young people from the U.S. and Germany collaborating on dance works, both in East Germany and New York City that explore the historic relevance of the Fall of the Berlin Wall twenty years ago.

The results of this one week of hard and intense work was presented on Wednesday, October 28th at 1 p.m. and at 8 p.m. in the Winter Garden of World Financial Center. More than a thousand people came to see the performance. The audience was enthusiastic about the professionalism the high school students showed, honoring their work with standing ovations.
This project was a great opportunity for the youth to connect both in a historical way by dancing history they didn’t experience, and in a cultural way by creating a dance that includes German and American ideas of art.
“Dancing to Connect” and its successful show were only made possible by the support of the European Reconstruction Fund, arts>World Financial Center, the US Embassy in Berlin, Carl Duisberg Society International, Robert Bosch Foundation, the German National Tourist Office and Mariott Court Yard.
