The Munich-based musical ensemble has been on tour on the East Coast to help raise awareness and promote better integration and acceptance for people with disabilities. Their concerts are planned in conjunction with events being held during the month of October, which has been designated National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the United States.
The Rolli-Gang, which was founded in 2001, is comprised of young people with physical disabilities. It was started by director René Vollmar who teaches religion at the Bayerische Landesschule für Körperbehinderte (Bavarian State School for the Disabled) in Munich. The talented group performs at a variety of venues, and they recently gave a concert in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Through their music, the singers aspire not only to entertain their audiences, but also to showcase the great achievements people with disabilities can accomplish. Members of the ensemble include Benjamin Richard Dannecker, Alexander Eberle, Orazio Armin Greco, Sarah Theresa Hadyk, Lars Krüger, Ersen Tekin, and Sabina Vathke.
On October 8, 2009, the Rolli-Gang will wrap up their eight-day tour and return to Germany.
