A concert especially worth seeing - and hearing - took place at the auditorium of the German Embassy on Tuesday, October 27.  The head of the Cultural Affairs Department, Dr. Bertram von Moltke, welcomed numerous guests to hear the Karlsruher Konzert-Duo, which traveled to Washington on its tour of the United States to perform works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Dimitri Shostakovich, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel, and Astor Piazzolla.

The Karlsruher Konzert-Duo has been in existence since 1997 and established itself as a successful and highly acclaimed duo at home and abroad through several international competitions.  They have taken home prizes from international competitions in Italy and France, winning the Lorenzo Perosi competition in Biella, Italy (1999); the 12ème Concours Pierre Lantier competition in Paris, France (2000); and the Concorso Vittoria Caffa Righetti competition in Cortemilia, Italy (2003).

In 1997, they received scholarships from the Braunschweiger Kammermusikpodium, which were followed in 2000 by stipends from the international chamber music course for ensembles of Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland and the International Foundation for the Advancement of the Culture and Civilization of Munich.  In 2001, the duo received funding for a composition on commission by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Art of Baden-Württemberg.

The duo regularly appears at renowned festivals and concert series both at home and abroad.  In the past years, they have toured Israel (1998, 2003), Switzerland (2001), Japan (2005), and Turkey (2006).  In fall 2006, they had their U.S. debut in Washington on invitation by the Beethoven Society, following up with performances in Miami, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. On a second U.S. tour, they performed in Atlanta, New York, Boston, Chicago, and Montreal.  In 2008, performances took them to Bordeaux, France; Oman and Kuwait; Moscow (Art November Festival) and St. Petersburg; Naples, Italy; and Poland.  In February 2009, they performed in Turkey, Cyprus, and Lebanon.
