German Films at AFI EU Film Showcase

The 22nd European Union Film Showcase features 39 films representing 25 countries, including official foreign language Oscar® selections, festival headliners and U.S. and Washington, DC premieres of major first-run releases.

Germany will be represented with three highly acclaimed films: Everyone Else by director Maren Ade, starring Birgit Minchmayer (Best Actress, 2009 Berlin Film Festival) and Lars Eidinger; Cloud Nine, a romantic drama by director Andreas Dresen, which stars Ursula Werner (Best Actress, Bavarian Film Awards); and John Rabe, a moving true-story account  directed by Florian Gallenberger and starring Ulrich Tukur, who garnered awards for his performance at the Bavarian Film Awards and German Film Awards.

The festival, which runs from November 5 -24, 2009, is presented by the American Film Institute in collaboration with the Cultural Counselors of the European Union Member States’ Embassies and the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington, DC.  It takes place at the AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring, Maryland.
