Ambassador Klaus Scharioth hosted the annual board meeting of the German American Business Council (GABC), followed by the annual reception and dinner with members and invited guests on November 12. Founded in 1991, the Council, is an important mouthpiece of the Washington-based German business community as well as of US companies with ties to Germany.
“The annual GABC dinner is a must – the Council is doing an excellent job, and we are very grateful for that,” Ambassador Scharioth said in his greeting. “If the GABC would not exist, we would have to invent it.” In his remarks, he mentioned the actual state of the German economy, highlighting that compared to the other economic indicators the unemployment rate has stayed relatively moderate. The Ambassador mentioned the positive results of the last G-20 meeting and warned about protectionism. Finally, he stressed the need for the Copenhagen climate summit to become a success: “This chance should not go by."
In his remarks, GABC President Steve Williams presented the newly appointed board members.
In his brief address, GABC Chairman Ron Doksai praised the cooperation with the German Embassy and presented a gift to the Ambassador.
