Economics and Technology Minister Rainer Brüderle makes first official visit to Washington

German Minister of Economics and Technology Rainer Brüderle met with high-ranking US officials during his first official visit to Washington, February 1-2, 2010.
On Monday, February 1, the minister met with US Treasury Secretrary Timothy Geithner and with the Director of the National Economic Council, Larry Summers. At a dinner hosted by German Ambassador Dr. Klaus Scharioth, Minister Brüderle also met with US Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu, as well as with other high-ranking administration officials, prominent politicians, and business leaders.
On Tuesday, February 2, Minister Brüderle held talks with US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke; the First Deputy Managining Director of the International Monetary Fund, John Lipsky; US Trade Representative Ron Kirk; and with the Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Donald Kohn. He also met with senators and representatives of Congress, as well as with German business leaders in the United States.
Prior to his departure, Minister Brüderle stated: "I am looking forward to the opportunity to engage in an intensive and meaningful exchange with representatives of the U.S. Administration and Congress who play a central role in economic and financial affairs. It is my goal to find ways to foster an even more intensive cooperation with the United States. The German government attaches great importance to transatlantic relations."
