University of Washington Looks at Germany Since the Wende

The University of Washington in Seattle will host a two-day conference from November 19 to 20 on "The Legacies of Unification - Remaking German Society and Culture since the Wende". Dr. Konrad Jarausch, Lurcy Professor of European Civilization at the University of North Carolina, will kick off the conference on November 19 with a keynote address entitled "Germany 1989: a new kind of revolution?"
On November 20, a series of panel presentations will moreover focus on: United Germany in a Unifying Europe; Culture and the Arts in the Berlin Republic; and Remaking German Society in the Context of Globalization.
This will be followed by a gala event showcasing student projects in conjunction with "Freedom Without Walls: Fall of the Berlin Wall 1989-2009", sponsored by the German Embassy.
