As part of the "Deutschlandwochen 2011", we are continuing to screen seven films by German director Fatih Akin. Akin was born in 1973 in Hamburg to parents of Turkish origin. The lives of Turks and people with Turkish migration background in Germany are a recurring theme of his movies. His national and international breakthrough came in 2004 with his movie Head On.

Alexander Hacke, the bassist of “Einstürzenden Neubauten,” and director Fatih Akin travel to Istanbul to catch the music and the sounds of the city. Their journey begins at the Bosporus Bridge (Bogazici Körprüsü), and leads them through the streets, where they meet the rapper Ceza, Orhan Gencebay, and Kurdish singer Aynur. The film is an absorbing portrait of the city that bridges Europe and Asia and continues the themes raised in Head-On by exploring the musical concept of east-meets-west.
