30th Anniversary Showing of "Das Boot" at Patriots Point in Charleston
Enlarge image (© Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Academy Award®-nominated epic WWII masterpiece Das Boot, the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Charleston, SC will screen the digitally restored and fully remastered director's cut of the movie July 17 – 19. The director’s cut of this prized film adds 60 nail-biting minutes to the original version, which was nominated in 1982 for six Academy Awards® including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Effects/Sound Effects Editing and Best Sound.
Das Boot Synopsis
At the height of WWII, a young submarine crew heads out to sea on a top-secret mission that all but ensures most will never make it home alive. Ordered to patrol the Atlantic and destroy an allied armada bringing supplies to Britain, these raw recruits must band together, bracing themselves against a depth-charge assault from an unseen enemy. Oscar ® - nominated director Wolfgang Petersen’s epic adventure deftly explores tension as pressure builds to an explosive climax, packing a visceral punch few movies can match.
The movie is 3 hrs. and 20 min. long. It will be shown on July 19 th at 7:15 p.m. in the Smokey Stover Theater aboard the USS YORKTOWN.
Tickets will be $12 each. This is a 33% discount on regular Patriots Point admission. Price includes a tour of the Clamagore (submarine). The Clamagore tours will be offered 5:30 - 6:30 (last tour starts at 6:30). The tours will be guided by veteran submarine servicemen.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the harrowing 1981 epic film for the first time on Blu-ray on June 7, 2011.
