About the Mannes School of Music:
Since 1999, Mannes has presented a series of year-long music festivals, each with a different unifying theme. Each festival presents more than 20 concerts featuring Mannes's gifted young artists, distinguished faculty, and renowned guests. Held at many of New York's most prestigious concert venues and cultural institutions, the festivals are an outstanding component of the total Mannes program.
Each Festival is an exploration of an individual composer, a musical group, a stylistic movement, or a specific historical period. Pre-concert remarks guided by Festival Artistic Director Pavlina Dokovska are a key component to the audience's enjoyment. These informative and entertaining "in-person program notes" greatly increase audience understanding and appreciation of the works performed. In celebration of the 200th birthdays of Robert Schumann and Frederic Chopin, Mannes explores the musical world they shared through concerts and master classes by students, faculty, and guests.
