The Fatih Akin series continues at the Goethe Institut with “Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul”, a documentary about Istanbul's music scene by award winning director Fatih Akin. The film is a journey through the music scene in modern Istanbul as well as a portrayal of its cultural life. Alexander Hacke, the bassist of Einstürzende Neubauten and director Fatih Akin try to catch the sound of the city. Their journey starts at the Bosphorus Bridge, and it goes among others to musicians such as Ceza (Turkish Rap), Orhan Gencebay (the master of the Saz, a plugged string instrument), the Pop-Diva Sezen Aksu, the Kurdish singer Aynur, and to street musicians.
A musical portrait of a vibrant city where East and West literally meets. “Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul” was screened out of competition at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.
