Polo goes green on Sunday, June 27th with the “Green Cup of Polo”, a benefit event to raise awareness of environmental issues in support of leading D.C. environmental organizations.

The “Green Cup of Polo” remains the only carbon-neutral sporting event in the greater Washington area. The German Embassy will participate in the event as part of the German government’s ‘Transatlantic Climate Bridge’ initiative, and will be represented with its own tent, open to all.

Also represented in Germany’s tent will be the Heinrich Böll Foundation, a non-profit organization affiliated with the German Green Party, and the Ecologic Institute, an independent, non-partisan body dedicated to bringing fresh ideas to environmental policies and sustainable development. Both are partners of the “Transatlantic Climate Bridge”.

The event  incorporates green principles into every stage of the planning process. It will feature cuisine from the city’s top organic and sustainable restaurants and cafes. All proceeds of the event will benefit ACORE (American Council on Renewable Energy), Philippe Cousteau’s ‘EarthEcho International’ und ‘Equestrian Partners in Conservation’.

Activities will include two high-paced polo matches, a half-time show featuring music, divot-stomping, and performances by local and nationally recognized equestrian groups.
