Come listen, learn and exchange ideas about sustainable ways to:

  • Reduce our dependence on foreign oil;
  • Increase our energy and national security;
  • Reduce the levels of damaging greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere;
  • Create jobs!

Delegations from Denmark and Germany will come together with business and community leaders and interested citizens in the Charleston region for a day long forum on sustainable ways to community prosperity.

Come hear the story of Denmark and its pledge to make the country fossil fuel free by 2050. Learn about the municipality of Thisted that is almost fossil fuel free now; the island of Samsø that achieved energy self-sufficiency in a decade’s time; and the island of Bornholm that is a new green laboratory focused on electric cars, solar deployment, energy efficient construction and the development of an intelligent electricity system.

Learn about Germany, a leader in energy efficiency and renewable energies. Meet representatives of the city of Munich, the municipality of Saerbeck and the former US-base Scharnhauser Park and learn how 118 German cities and regions are going to have 100% renewable energy supply in the near future.

Join Mayor Joe Riley as he discusses Charleston’s many green projects. South Carolina efforts such as Clemson University Restoration Center wind-turbine drive-train testing facility, the City of Charleston and Trident Technical College’s programs will also be highlighted and demonstrate the role played in building a renewable energy infrastructure.
