Consul General Lutz Görgens installed a new Honorary Consul to Mississippi, Mr. Peyton Prospere, during a session of the Mississippi State Senate and in the presence of Mississippi's Lieutenant Governor, Tate Reeves. Mr. Prospere is a lawyer with the firm of Watkins & Eager PLLC in Jackson. He serves as only the second Honorary Consul for Germany in Mississippi.
"The longstanding tradition of excellent relations between Germany and Mississippi continues today and the new Honorary Consul is called upon to contribute to the cooperation in the areas of economic development, transportation, culture and legal affairs," Lutz Görgens said during the ceremony. "I call upon all citizens of Mississippi to assist him in these endeavors to strengthen and further develop ties and exchange between Georgia and Mississippi, between America and Europe."
Consul General Görgens listed several successful economic and cultural connections during his speech. Many German companies invest in Mississippi and create additional jobs, i.e. Schulz in Tunica, Bayer and BASF, Eurocopter, and Fresenius. 15,000 German tourists visit the state annually and enjoy the beautiful beaches and exciting cultural offerings. Furthermore, school partnerships like the one of Gulfport High School with the Carl-Bechstein Gymnasium Erkner (near Berlin) offer the promises of international experiences for students.
Peyton Prospere takes over from his distinguished predecessor, Bud Robinson, whose successful tenure contributed greatly to the excellent relationship between Germany and Mississippi.
"You have been a successful steward for all German citizens living in Mississippi," Görgens told Robinson.
