On Sunday, May 2nd, the German-American School Association of Southern California (GASA), the German-American League and the Phoenix Club held its annual Kinderfest and Maifest in Anaheim.

The event brought together students from GASA’s ten Saturday and two Kinderland schools and the members from twenty German clubs in Southern California, to celebrate German heritage.

Consul Michael Ott welcomed members of the German-American community on behalf of German Consul General Wolfgang Drautz, and expressed his pleasure, in seeing so many young faces in attendance. He encouraged all students present to continue learning German, and to embrace their German roots. Only by doing so, can German culture and traditions flourish and stay alive in Southern California.

Participants, ranging from the youngest students to the oldest club members, performed traditional German dances, sang German songs, blew Alpine horns, and danced around a traditional maypole. Seventeen-year-old Christine Dreher, granddaughter of Austrian-American Club President Franz Dreher, was crowned the event's May Queen.

The day offered fun and lots of entertainment for the whole family. Activities ranged from arts and crafts, pony rides, music, dancing and a big raffle drawing with many wonderful prizes to win.
