Concerto Köln Plays at LA's Walt Disney Concert Hall

Over 1,000 concertgoers, including Cultural Affairs Consul Michael Ott and Vice Consul Julia Neblich, attended Concerto Köln's performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 24. The ensemble played a program rich in Baroque featuring works by Dall'Abaco, Vivaldi, Bach and Sammartini.
Founded in 1985, the orchestra has earned itself a unique image by playing music of the 18th and early 19th centuries as well as rediscovering composers whose music has remained in the shadows of great names. Concerto Köln has also made significant contributions to the revival of these works including those of Joseph Martin Kraus and Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco, and especially those of Henri-Joseph Rigel. Their recording of Rigel's Symphonies received numerous awards in 2009 including the ECHO Classic and the MIDEM Classic Award in 2010.

Concerto Köln has further set itself apart by working as a “co-operative collaboration.” Every musician in the ensemble has a say, and can freely express his or her own ideas. Each piece is also lovingly worked through in detail by all involved. With no permanent conductor at the helm, the orchestra is lead by the principal first violin, who serves as concertmaster of the ensemble.
Coming off a mini-tour of the United States, which also took them to Washington, D.C, Concerto Köln is hoping to return to the U.S. in November.
This concert tour was supported by the German Foreign Office and the Goethe-Institut.
