Let's All Roll Up Our Sleeves and Increase the Gross National Product

With Bruttosozialprodukt (gross national product) the group Geier Sturzflug, part of the Neue Deutsche Welle, made it to the top of the charts for several weeks in 1983 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. With the catchy chorus of "now it's time roll up our sleeves again, we're increasing the gross national product," and lyrics like "on Christmas everyone lies around and says 'phew'; the trashcan won't even close anymore," the song takes a cynical swipe at the modern cycle of consumer over indulgance and the non-stop manufacturing work necessary to keep with it.
