Ambassador Ammon Visits Gettysburg, Meets with Lt. Governor Cawley

Ambassador Peter Ammon and German Bundestag Member Philipp Mißfelder paid a visit to Gettysburg, where they met with Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley and toured the Gettysburg National Military Park. Bundestag Member Mißfelder is the spokesperson on foreign policy of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag.
They met for a lunch discussion on relations between the state of Pennsylvania and Germany and to lay the groundwork for enhancing further cooperation, most prominently in the realm of the Skills Initiative.
Lt. Governor Cawley hosted his guests in a most unique location, the historic Sherfy House on the Sherfy Farm, the site of fierce fighting over two days in 1863. The Battle of Gettysburg, fought over three days, from July 1 to 3, 1863, is seen as the turning point in the Civil War. The Union Army of the Potomac defeated General Lee's Confederate forces, and he eventually surrendered 21 months later, ending the war.
Before their meeting, Ambassador Ammon and MdB Mißfelder enjoyed a tour of the Gettysburg National Military Park, led by Sue Boardman of the Gettysburg Foundation.
