Germany’s Federal President Gauck to Visit Olympic Games in London

London Enlarge image The London Skyline (© picture-alliance / dpa) German Federal President Joachim Gauck plans to visit the Olympic Games in London next week. According to the Office of the Federal President, Germany’s Head of State is scheduled to attend a reception hosted on Friday by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace before he attends the opening ceremony in the evening. 

Gauck is scheduled to have breakfast on Saturday with young athletes from Germany’s Olympic Youth Camp on the MS Deutschland, a cruise ship docked near London’s German House. Gauck is then scheduled to watch the qualification round. Around noon Gauck plans on visiting the Olympic Village along with athletes before visiting the German House itself. In the evening Gauck is to visit the swimming competitions before finally flying back to Germany.

In all, 392 German athletes are competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.
