"A Bigger Picture" – Hockney Exhibition Moves to Cologne

Around 300 paintings, drawings and water colors detail Hockney’s latest passion for landscape painting. The radiantly colorful works are mostly spread across several canvases and span several meters, according to a statement from the Museum Ludwig. Hockney painted most of the pictures in his homecountyofYorkshirein northernEngland. His current experiments with tablet computers are also featured among the works. In place of easels and brushes, Hockney has become accustomed to painting images on touch screen computers. The results are then printed on large canvases.

(© picture alliance / Oliver Berg) The exhibition, which runs until February 3, was also recently held in the London Royal Academy. There the show attracted record numbers of visitors – 650,000 in total. Hockney, who is famous for his paintings of swimming pools, among other motifs, is widely considered to be among the most important active painters in the world.
