Warning: Phishing Emails on behalf of German Federal Central Tax Office (Bundeszentralamt für Steuern)

The German Federal Central Tax Office (FCTO) is warning of phishing emails that try to trick taxpayers into giving up bank account and credit card information. By posing as email from the FCTO taxpayers are told to be due to a tax refund. In order to be reimbursed taxpayers are asked to fill in an application form.
The FCTO advises not to respond to any of these or similar emails. These emails are fraud attempts. The FCTO never contacts taxpayers about tax refunds or asks for bank account or credit card information via email.
